What so great about the 80s you say?
Well, for one thing - I was born in the 80s!! yes, 80s baby and very proud of it!
I have always found the 80s very fascinating, colorful (literally), giving birth to a whole new music scene (The Cure, The Cars, David Bowie and The Smiths), taking new heights *with the tallest hair on the planet and the bushiest hairdos*, widening our shoulders with pads and bringing us some great coming-to-age teen dramas/comedies which I have grown to LOVE!
That decade overall, just was probably the most individualistic era and time for music, fashion and just for young teenagers to find their wits and be real rebels of the heart!
Personally, I would love to turn back time and live in the 80s for a year or so...just to experience shoulder pads, bright neon jackets, boom boxes, the punk/rock revolution and waist high pants! ;)
I just watched the movie, Say Anything the other day and thought it was one of my current favs when it comes to "teen romance/dramas & coming of age stories" ever created!!
It goes down in my list of fav quirky, coming-of-age movies...
with a bunch of greats like: "The Breakfast Club", "Sixteen Candles", "Donnie Darko", "Pretty in Pink", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and who can forget, "Can't buy me love" starring now famous Mr. Dreamy a.k.a Patrick Dempsey! (all amazing movies btw)
What is there to hate about the 80s?? really? Great SOUNDTRACKS...amazing mixes, random witty comments, awkward teen conversations, BEST quotes, finding yourself, great fashion statements...what else do you need in a great teen movie?
(that was before the age of teen queens like Miley, Lindsay, Hilary, the whole factory line of Selena Gomezes and Demi Levatos)
Llyod Dobbler, John Cusacks character in this movie is to die for... :)
Anywho, "Say Anything" has this really iconic and memorable scene where John Cusack stands outside Diane Court's house and plays "In Your Eyes" from his Boom box (as shown above) by Peter Gabriel - which to me is arguably the best/most romantic song from the 80s!! :)
So, if you haven't seen this MUST SEE 80s flick - go rent a dvd/download it asap! hehe. ;) highly recommended.
